Well for being at Enrich this year it has been rather fun and rather challenging. Why am I commenting like this you may ask, but today is my very very very last at Enrich! Since I am a year 6 I do not stay on....
I am now going to high school. I have enjoyed being at Enrich for the past year, we have done perspective, which was the way you see things. And for that we went on the Water tower. Then we did Environment which was very challenging with all the planning. Then in term 4 it was basically back to normal doing must dos and picks.
I have met a lot of new friends. Well anyway today I did another stick animation! (Yes I have done an infinite and 1 of them.) But this time I added special effects lightning effects from the movie star wars.
It was quite hard to add the cool effect to the movie but it was a lot easier to do then some other ways.... I just used iMovie HD. Sadly the video file is too large to upload.... This is my final blog post at Enrich!
Hi! My name is John and I'm a year 6 and I go to Enrich every Wednesday. Enrich is a school for gifted kids. We do a lot of different things that we don't do at school. This is something we do at Enrich. Concept Curriculum which is perspective (the way you look at something). Mental Edge that is games that makes us think, games like Chess. We also do Passion time. Passion Time is when we do something that we wanna learn or do like writing a novel, making animations , clay making , etc.

Stick Animation
Today at Enrich I did a stick animations for passion time.(I know I do a million animations!) Once again I used the same website and this time made a short movie,(Which took until Christmas... just kidding.) which has 300 frames which is basically 300 pictures! I have managed to make it go very smooth but the smoother it is, the harder it is to make it. The animation is about a stick figure doing a whole lot of crazy moves, like stretching his arm and karate kicking in the air. I have also managed to record it and here it is!
It took about 20 minutes to make. The website for the animation is here: http://www.stickpage.com/stickanimatorgameplay.shtml
The website even had options for saving and exporting! Which for a website game is quite good and helpful. There also is a similar program called pivot stick-figure animator but it is a program not a website game.

Stick Animation
Today at Enrich for passion time, I did stick animations instead of lego aniamtions. I used an online animation website to do it which is on stick page. It was fun and I made two, both were a guy falling from from the sky and then getting back up.
I also did a third one which was a guy karate kicking into the sky, which he then landed off the page!
Since it was a website game instead of a programme it didn't have many options of what you could do, like inserting more objects or changing colour of objects.

Lego Animation (With Video)
Today at Enrich we did passion time for about an hour it was fun and I added effects to my lego animations, which gladly I can now present on the blog!
It took me a couple of weeks to make all of these and I have added my 3 best ones together, the first one is at 10 frames per second making it a little choppy the other ones are at 5 or 3 frames per second making it look smoother.
My first one is about a wild sea lion who is this randoms guys pet who comes and collects him. The other two you will need to watch to see them!

Type without looking?
Today at Enrich we did a letter typing game, except the only catch was that we had to do it without looking. I was quite good at it! I found it quite hard, even right now as I am typing this I am not looking (just for practice).
The words we had to type weren't actually words but random letters containing the letters asdf, they were simple and quite easy for me but I could not type as fast as I would normally with looking. But typing without looking at what you are doing makes you not realize mistakes that you make during this but I still need to look for caps lock and commas and the rest which is bit hard to find without looking.
Overall I found it most enjoyable but frustrating when it would not type because I forgot a space!

Animations
Today at Enrich Caleb and I made Lego animations, we each took turns doing our own idea and we managed to make two in the end. My one was about a car going fast with criminals and crashing into a brick wall....
Caleb's one was about a truck going past and dumping a hungry shark, which then later a lego mini-figure comes along and gets eaten in one bite, then his head rolls quietly across the ground....
Also with my one when the wall falls down from the crash of the car, a guy is with a trophy and another guy lands in the trophy, so he is upside down!

Wilson game
Today at Enrich we did a Wilson game, the Wilson game we did was called "All or nothing" the objective of the game is to get the beanbag into a basket, located in a hoop. There were four hoops. If you got the beanbag in the basket you would move it to the next hoop and you would have to throw it to the next person, if they didn't catch the ball you would have to put the beanbag and the basket right back at the beginning!
My team didn't win, but we would have won on points! We did three rounds and we would have won all of them if it was for points but we never managed to get the ball all the way to the last and throw it back and catch it....

Digital Animations
Today at Enrich I did a digital animation, although it seemed very hard and complicated to achieve.
First the program I used was called Blender. Blender is 3D software that can make and model 3D objects. Examples are heads, people, lego, plus millions more.
Since this was my second time ever using the awesome programme Blender, I didn't get very far although I have managed to make a small animation. The animation is a couple of shapes that glide around, sadly it would appear that it is impossible to post it on this blog....

Chess Master Vs Master!
Today At Enrich I played an exciting and fierce game with AJ, one of the students at Enrich.
First I lost my Queen, then I decided I would not be beaten so I then did a couple of very tricky moves with my two knights that managed to knock his queen right off the chess board.
After that, the loud music came on so we decided to cancel the game since it was looking as it would end up as a stale mate.I had My king, two pawns and a knight left and AJ had his king and 3 pawns.
Also today at Enrich we had a garden expert come in and talk with the people who are doing the garden for their environment project at Wachner Place. The garden expert's name is Bruce. Together we planned out what plants we are going to use, and how we are going to arrange them. We are planning to plant roses, dwarf yellow and purple flax bushes too.

Chess
Today at Enrich we played chess like we normally do each week we come. Today I played against Reid and Luca.
I played Reid once and Luca twice. The reason I played Luca twice is because he wanted a rematch since the first game went quickly and not so good for him.
Out of the 3 games I played I won all of them! I was white against Reid and black against Luca in the first match and then white in the second match.
On the leader-board I am the 9th highest out of around 30 kids! Luca is one below me and Reid is a couple below him. I had a excellent day.

Science: Circuits
Today at Enrich, the students that have been doing science and I had to make a circuit that makes lead light up!
You may think "How hard could it possibly be!" Well we had to only use things that you would find around your home. For example for a stand we used a toilet paper holder and for a cover for safety so the light does not burn and set on fire we used a jar!
We used a pie tin to put the holder on so it would not catch fire.
Here is a picture of a lead light but it is a different version.

Talent Development
Today the Enrich students did Talent development. Talent development is when we get to do either Photography, Mathematics or Drama. I am doing Photography and we have been doing manipulated photos.
I really enjoy doing it so far. I have done 4 manipulated photos, one is when I am doing a stunt! (I just cut my head out and pasted it on a stunt guys head).

The learning wheel
Today all the Enrich students had to fill in a learning wheel, going over what we had tried, used, learnt, felt and had wondered at Enrich during term 1.
A few people found it hard to write those five things because there was not much room on the learning wheel.
Others however found it easy because they probably had learnt many things this term.

SCAMPER
This week we did a scamper. S = Subsitute C = Combine A = Alter M = Mega P = Put to other uses E = Eliminate R = Reverse.
The Group I was in did well we used a noodle and most of the pictures we took were good. One we took was Substitute we used the noodle as a super long straw!
SCAMPER Is used for creativity and to make you think of using items different ways.
We also did the same Wilson Games as last time we did the peg one. Its called Pegasaurus I think.

Wilson game
For a couple of weeks the enrich students and I have been playing Wilson games. One of the games we played was one when 3 people had pegs on them. Another team had them to. The teams had to get pegs off each other. They only had one minute to do it. If a player had gotten one peg off another player that was 1 points if a person managed to have a peg all the game that was two points. For the people who were short I think it was easier because tall people have to bend down to grab the peg.

Kiaora John,
You were on fire during debating this week! I was impressed with the way you had thought out your discussion points, with further thought going into rebuttals. Your team worked very well together, you showed great leadership here, finding a great balance of listening and contributing.
See you next week

Drama
At enrich a few weeks ago we got to have a try of some subjects. Maths, Science, Art, Computer programming, Documentary making and Drama. Drama was my favorite because I seemed to be good at it! The part I was good at was when we had someone else arms controlling what your arms were doing. so 1 person would be in front and talking and walking and the other person behind him/her would control the arms. ( He uses his/hers own arms ) I got to be the person behind one of the people and we had to be with another group acting two old friends meeting together again so I ... slapped the person!(but not to hard!)

Perspective
A few weeks ago the other enrich students and I went on a field trip finding out about what perspective means.
First we went to an Art gallery looking at all the paintings and the way they were painted.
Next we went to the Water tower. We were allowed to go to the top. I was a bit scared. When we got to the top and looked down I realized how high we really were. Then we went to a church looking at the stained windows. I now know that perspective means it means the way you look at something or the way the camera was positioned.
